Agartala, 3rd July 2025:   BJP MLA Kishor Barman, was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in Tripura on Thursday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu during a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.

The development came a day after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha met with the Governor, reportedly to discuss the long-awaited cabinet expansion.

After taking the oath, Barman described the moment as a “new chapter” in his political journey. Expressing confidence, he said he did not view the responsibility as a challenge, given the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Saha.

“I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with other senior leaders, for entrusting me with this responsibility. I will do my best to serve, following in the footsteps of our PM and CM,” Barman said.

On the issue of portfolio allocation, Barman said no discussions had yet taken place. “As a BJP karyakarta, I never think about posts. Whatever task the party assigns, I carry it out with sincerity—and I will continue to do so,” he added.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha welcomed Barman to the cabinet, noting that his induction fills the final vacancy among the 12 available cabinet berths. “With his induction, the Cabinet is now 11 ministers. We have one berth for a Minister of State. I hope Kishor Barman will carry forward the responsibilities entrusted to him and contribute to building an ‘Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura’,” said the Chief Minister.

Regarding portfolio distribution, Dr. Saha assured that it would be finalized in due course. While most cabinet members attended the swearing-in, a few were notably absent—Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath (recuperating from cataract surgery), Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, MoS Brishaketu Debbarma, and Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, who is currently in Delhi.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, and several senior government officials were present at the ceremony.
