Agartala, March 28: A local woman, Pinky Datta, has been accused of assaulting a car driver, Bishnu Das, in an attempt to cover up her family’s alleged involvement in illegal activities. The incident took place in the vicinity of B.ED College under Kumarghat police station.

Nine months back, Pinky Datta, wife of Nukum Datta, a resident of North Pabiacherra area in Kumarghat, was jailed for trafficking dried cannabis. It is alleged that she tried to involve Bishnu Das, a local driver, in smuggling the substance out of the state in a Maruti van bearing the registration number AS11X-8076.

However, Bishnu Das was apprehended in the Cooch Behar area and served a nine-month jail term. Upon his release, he returned to Kumarghat and approached the Datta for his due wages. When the payment was denied, he insisted on bringing the matter to the attention of other drivers at the local car stand.

In response, Pinky Datta allegedly assaulted Bishnu Das with her shoes. The situation escalated, forcing local residents to intervene. Kumarghat police were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene, taking Pinky Datta and the vehicle into custody.

The case is now under investigation, and it remains to be seen whether further action will be taken against the accused woman.
