Agartala, September 05, 2023: In a major operation against the illegal drug trade, a team of Kumarghat police station raided three locations in Uttar Pabiachara area and arrested seven drug peddlers on Tuesday. The police also seized 15 grams of Heroin, Rs 60,100 in cash and several vehicles and gadgets from the accused.
The raid was conducted at around 11 AM based on secret information received by the police. The team was led by Inspector Sankar Saha, the officer-in-charge of Kumarghat police station, and comprised of sub-inspectors Kinkar Paul, Satyabaman Debbarma, Bijoy Laxmi Debbarma, assistant sub-inspector V T Darlong and other staffs of the police station.
The police team searched the three places simultaneously and nabbed the seven suspects who were involved in the illegal trade of Heroin, a highly addictive substance. The police recovered approximately 15 grams of the contraband from their possession, along with Rs 60,100 in cash, which is suspected to be the proceeds of the drug sale. The police also seized 15 mobile phones, three motor cycles and a Maruti Alto 800 car from the accused, which were allegedly used for the drug trafficking.
The police said they followed all the legal formalities laid down under the NDPS Act during the raid, search and seizure. A specific case has been registered against the seven accused persons at Kumarghat police station under sections 22(B), 25, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act, which deal with possession, sale, consumption and abetment of narcotic drugs. The accused will be produced before the court soon.
The police said the operation was part of their ongoing efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the area. They appealed to the public to cooperate with them and provide any information regarding such illegal activities. They also warned that anyone found indulging in such crimes will face strict action as per law.
