Agartala, 16th October 2026 :   Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dhalai, successfully organised a training programme on scientific fish farming along with the distribution of essential aquaculture inputs, including fish seed, limestone and mineral mixture, to 100 fish farmers from Durgachowhamuni and Salema R.D. Blocks of Dhalai District, Tripura.

The programme was conducted under the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Component of ICAR–Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in collaboration with KVK Dhalai, with the objective of promoting scientific freshwater aquaculture, enhancing fish productivity and strengthening the livelihoods of rural fish farmers.

The programme was attended by Dr. Subhendu Adhikari, Principal Scientist and Coordinator, NEH Scheme; Dr. Rathindra Nath Mandal, Scientist-in-Charge and Principal Scientist; and Dr. Arabinda Das, Senior Scientist. The Chairman of Salema Panchayat Samity and the Pradhan of Salema Gram Panchayat also graced the occasion.

During the training programme, the participating farmers were sensitised to the importance of adopting scientific aquaculture practices for sustainable fish production. Emphasis was placed on proper pond preparation, water quality management, scientific stocking of fish seed, balanced nutrition and effective pond management practices to improve fish growth, survival and overall productivity.

As part of the programme, fish seed, limestone and mineral mixture were distributed among 100 beneficiary fish farmers to encourage the adoption of improved aquaculture technologies. The input support is expected to assist farmers in strengthening pond management practices, improving fish production and generating additional income through freshwater aquaculture.

The programme also provided an opportunity for interaction between scientists and farmers, facilitating the exchange of technical knowledge and practical experiences related to fish farming in small water bodies.

The initiative reflects the continued efforts of ICAR-CIFA and KVK Dhalai towards strengthening scientific aquaculture practices, improving nutritional security and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the farming communities of Dhalai District.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on the importance of scientific interventions, institutional support and continuous technical guidance for the sustainable development of freshwater aquaculture in the region.
