Agartala, 25th July 2025: A 37-year-old woman, Reena Dutta, died under mysterious circumstances in the Dashghari area of Purvakanchanbari, Kumarghat police jurisdiction sparking allegations of domestic abuse and foul play.
Sources say Datta, a daily wage labourer was found dead yesterday morning following an alleged incident of poison ingestion. Her in-laws claim she took her own life, but her maternal family has dismissed this version, pointing fingers at her two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
A formal complaint has been registered at the Kumarghat police station and an investigation is underway.
Reportedly, Datta had been struggling for years after her husband went missing 15 years back. She is survived by two sons. Her maternal relatives allege she faced continued harassment from her husband’s family since his disappearance.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the death was suicide or homicide. Police are interviewing witnesses and gathering forensic evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
