Labourer dies after being trapped in mud collapse, family devastated

Date:

Agartala, 25th April 2026:   A tragic incident took place in Akinpur area under Siddhinagar Tehsil of Rajnagar assembly constituency, where a 45-year-old daily wage labourer, Ratan Bhowmik, lost his life after being buried under a sudden mudslide.

Reportedly, Ratan was engaged in digging work at his own residence on Friday when the soil collapsed unexpectedly, trapping him completely. Disaster Management Officer and DCM Sanjay Shil, along with subdivision officials, rushed to the spot. Later, with the help of a dredger from the Public Works Department, his body was recovered. It was subsequently sent to Niharnagar Primary Health Centre for post-mortem examination.

Ratan, the sole breadwinner of his family, leaves behind his grieving wife and two children—a son studying in Class V and a daughter in Class XII. His wife broke down in tears at the scene, expressing despair over how she will continue her children’s education after the loss.

DCM Sanjay Shil assured the bereaved family that all possible assistance would be provided as per government norms. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the locality, with residents mourning the untimely death of the hardworking labourer.
