Land dispute turns violent in city; Man accuses sister of assault, harassment and property pressure

Date:

Agartala, 12th June 2026:   A land dispute has allegedly turned into a family conflict in the Khejur Bagan area of the capital, with a man accusing his sister of assault, mental harassment and pressuring him to hand over his property. The victim, identified as Bipul Debnath, lodged a complaint at the NCC Police Station on Friday seeking legal action and justice.

In his complaint, Bipul alleged that his sister Shilpi Debnath, who lives in Kolkata, had been repeatedly harassing him over the phone regarding the family property. He claimed that Shilpi returned to Tripura a few months ago, after which tensions between the siblings escalated.

Bipul further alleged that Shilpi and another sister, Trisha Debnath, had jointly filed a molestation case against him at the Women’s Police Station, following which he remained in judicial custody for 16 days. He is currently out on bail.

According to Bipul, their mother had earlier distributed land among Shilpi, Trisha and him. However, he alleged that Shilpi has been demanding that he transfer all land and property registered in his name to the two sisters, which he refused.

Bipul claimed that following the dispute, he was assaulted and is now unable to return to his own residence. He also alleged that his house was vandalised and his shop was locked by Shilpi and Trisha.

Bipul made additional allegations regarding Shilpi’s previous marriages, claiming that she had divorced her earlier husbands after receiving large sums of money. However, these allegations are part of Bipul’s complaint and have not been independently verified.

The complainant has urged the police to investigate the matter and provide him protection and justice. The NCC Police Station has received the complaint, and further action is awaited.
