Agartala, 24th May 2026 : In a significant success against drug trafficking, police under the jurisdiction of the Ambassa Police Station seized a large consignment of narcotic cough syrup during a naka checking operation in Ambassa on Sunday.
Police sources informed that the incident took place while officers were conducting routine vehicle inspections at a checkpoint. A Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number TR01 AL 0314 was signaled to stop for checking. However, the driver allegedly attempted to evade the naka point and sped away, prompting an immediate police chase.
Sources said the driver tried to escape through a jungle route in the Nailaha Bari area. Realizing that escape had become difficult, the accused reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot, taking advantage of the surrounding terrain.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police recovered around 220 bottles of Eskuf syrup suspected to be intended for illegal trafficking. Preliminary investigation indicates that the narcotic cough syrup had been brought from outside the state and was allegedly being transported towards Agartala for smuggling purposes.
Soon after receiving information about the seizure, Nirupam Dutta and Nandan Das rushed to the spot and supervised the operation.
The seized Scorpio vehicle has been brought to the Ambassa Police Station, and police have launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver and identify others possibly linked to the smuggling network. Authorities believe the seizure could be connected to a larger interstate narcotics supply chain operating in the region.
