Agartala, 10th April 2026: A major controversy has erupted in Tripura after Minister Santana Chakma allegedly misbehaved with a young auto driver in Pecharthal. The incident, described by opposition leaders as “inhuman” and “shameful,” has sparked strong protests from left-affiliated trade unions.
Today, members of the Left workers’ organizations staged a demonstration outside the Labour Department, demanding Chakma’s immediate dismissal from the state cabinet. Leaders of the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation (Tripura unit) accused the minister of physically assaulting the auto driver, calling it an unprecedented and disgraceful act for the state.
Amal Chakraborty, one of the protest leaders, said, “A minister violating her own protocol and resorting to such behavior is unacceptable. Strict action must be taken without delay.” The unions have urged both the Labour Commissioner and the Chief Minister to intervene, insisting that Santana Chakma be removed from her ministerial post.
Protesters emphasized that the incident should be widely condemned so that the public is aware of the minister’s conduct. They vowed to continue their agitation until disciplinary action is taken.
