Legitimacy of TCA Apex Council comes under scrutiny after President’s ineligibility

Date:

Agartala, 17th August 2026 :  The legitimacy of the entire Apex Council of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has now come under scrutiny following the BCCI Ombudsman’s declaration that TCA President Tapan Lodh was ineligible to hold office over his alleged unconstitutional reinstatement.

A formal complaint has reportedly been submitted to BCCI Ombudsman Justice Arun Mishra, a retired Supreme Court judge, seeking suo motu proceedings against the present TCA Apex Council. The complainant has urged that the council be declared illegally constituted and that all decisions taken by it be annulled.

Former state cricketer Pranab Das, who had earlier complained against Tapan Lodh, has alleged that the present Apex Council was formed in violation of the TCA’s constitution. According to the complaint, the TCA constitution provides for a nine-member Apex Council with a specifically defined composition.

However, during a Special General Meeting, the present committee reportedly inducted Sunny Saha, a representative of the Udaipur Cricket Association, as an “invitee member”. This increased the council’s strength to ten. The complaint contends that the TCA constitution contains no provision for invitee members in the Apex Council, yet Saha was allegedly allowed to participate in decision-making during council meetings.

Another major issue raised by Das concerns the mandatory representation of cricketers. The TCA constitution reportedly requires two cricketers to be part of the Apex Council. The complainant alleged that not a single former cricketer has been appointed to the council during the past two-and-a-half years.

Das has therefore argued that the present Apex Council violates both the TCA’s constitution and the applicable BCCI framework. He has sought its declaration as illegal and the cancellation of all decisions taken by the body.

With the Ombudsman having already ruled against Tapan Lodh, attention is now focused on whether similar proceedings will be initiated against the entire Apex Council and what decision the BCCI Ombudsman ultimately takes on the fresh complaint.
