Agartala, 14th April 2025: Madhupur Police Station achieved a significant breakthrough on the last day of the Bengali year, arresting two liquor dealers and recovering foreign liquor worth over Rs 1 lakh during coordinated raids.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, Officer Tapan Debnath of Madhupur Police Station led a team comprising TSR and police personnel to raid the residence of Suraj Roy alias Shanu in the Chowmuhani area of Madhupur Bazar. The operation resulted in the seizure of 135 bottles of foreign liquor and beer from various brands. Suraj Roy was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at Madhupur Police Station.
Simultaneously, another raid was conducted at the residence of Khareez Mia in the Bazar Tilla area of Madhupur Bazar, where authorities recovered 114 bottles of assorted liquor brands. However, the suspected liquor dealer Harej Mia, escaped upon noticing the presence of police. According to Officer Tapan Debnath, the total market value of the seized liquor is estimated to exceed Rs 1 lakh.
Suraj Roy is currently detained at Madhupur Police Station, where a case has been registered against him, and investigations are ongoing. Officer Debnath assured that liquor trafficking in the area remains a priority target for law enforcement.
In the last month alone, Madhupur Police have successfully executed six raids, recovering liquor valued at over Rs 1.50 lakh.
