Agartala, 29th January 2024:   A group of local residents, led by the father of an Ayurvedic doctor who was allegedly assaulted by Amtali sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Prasun Kanti Tripura, submitted a deputation to the superintendent of police (SP) of West district on Monday, demanding legal action against the officer.

The incident took place on Thursday night, when Prasun Kanti Tripura’s son and daughter were reportedly attacked by a gang of miscreants in Abhoynagar area. The officer rushed to Tripura GBP Hospital, where his children were admitted with injuries. There, he allegedly beat up Kaushik Debnath, an Ayurvedic doctor who was on duty, accusing him of negligence.

Kaushik Debnath’s father, who filed a written complaint against Prasun Kanti Tripura, claimed that his son was innocent and had nothing to do with the attack on the officer’s children. He said that his son was brutally beaten by the officer without any provocation. He also alleged that the officer’s children were in a coma due to drug overdose, not because of the gang attack.

Prasun Kanti Tripura, who is a successful police officer and has created a stir in the state, has been transferred to Amtali police station as per the administrative order. A farewell program was held for him on Thursday. He could not be reached for comment. The SP of West district said that he has received the deputation and will look into the matter.
