Locals blockade NH demanding drinking water at Mungiakami

Agartala: March 16. Local of Mungiakami today have blockade national highway demanding drinking water. Drinking water shortage is a daily occurrence in Mungiakami block of Teliamura sub-division. Around 11-20 pm today, people of 43 miles area blocked the national highway demanding drinking water.

Mungiakami Police and Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prasun Kanti Tripura reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. After lengthy negotiations with the blockaders, the blockade was finally lifted after two hours. Every year, when the dry season starts in Atharmura hills, there is an severe shortage of drinking water. Drinking water is provided by vehicles from Teliamura DWS. Although pumps have been installed by the government for drinking water, drinking water has not yet reached those areas. As a result of the road blockade, many vehicles were stuck on both sides causing extreme suffering to the commuters.
