Agartala, 5th May 2024:   Tensions simmered down in Melaghar as local residents, in a show of solidarity, demanded the release of individuals arrested in connection with the recent vandalism incident at Melaghar Hospital. The uproar followed the demise of Moinuddin, known as Sohag Mia, a resident of Ward No. 8, Indiranagar, allegedly due to improper medical treatment.

Sohag’s family and members of the community voiced grievances regarding the circumstances of his death, attributing it to what they claimed was inadequate medical attention. This sentiment escalated into an act of vandalism directed at the hospital.

Authorities have since apprehended several suspects in connection with the incident. However, the community, led by Sohag Mia’s mother, asserted that while emotions ran high following the tragedy, innocent individuals have been unjustly detained.

Expressing their discontent, locals staged a blockade on the Melaghar-Sonamura road on Sunday, demanding the release of the captives. Sohag Miar’s mother emphasized that while some individuals may have acted impulsively, the majority present were innocent bystanders.

Following negotiations with the police, who assured a fair investigation, the residents agreed to lift the blockade. It was understood that the release of the detained individuals would prompt the withdrawal of the road obstruction.
