Agartala July 28: Locals staged protest by blocking the Dhupribandh – Uptakhali road under Jubarajnagar assembly constituency of Dharmanagar subdivision demanding immediate repair of dilapidated bridge.Locals raised allegations that with a lot of hope they have elected the new MLA in the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency during the by-elections but despite of repeated requests the shaky bridge is not being repaired.

The locals added that the iron bridge in the area is in terrible condition. Many have been injured while walking through this bridge. Moreover, due to the poor condition of the bridge, traffic has been completely stopped. Even emergency vehicles cannot pass through this bridge. Villagers have built alternative roads at their own expense. But the administration has not taken any initiative. Locals have informed the panchayat many times but it is alleged that there is no initiative to renovate the bridge.

The bridge belongs to Jubarajnagar block. Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Shripad Das and Malina Debnath had gone before the by-elections and assured that the problem would be solved quickly. But the promise has not been fulfilled so far. Villagers further alleged that money has been allocated for this work many times, but the panchayat members have kept all the money without doing any work. Finding no solution yet the locals joined the protest by burning tires. Now it remains to be seen what action is taken by the administration.
