Agartala, 5th November 2025:  Two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Sagar Das and Bikash Das from the Cumilla district of Bangladesh, were captured by local residents in the Bachai Bari area under Khowai’s Champahaor police station while allegedly attempting to flee in a vehicle. The duo was reportedly assaulted by the crowd before being handed over to the police.

Both men sustained serious injuries and were first admitted to Khowai District Hospital, from where they were later referred to Agartala for advanced medical treatment.

According to police sources, incidents of illegal infiltration have become increasingly frequent across various border points in the Khowai subdivision. Just days earlier, several Bangladeshi nationals were said to have entered Indian territory through the Laxmipur area near Sombaira Bazaar, triggering tension among local residents.

In connection with cross-border smuggling activities, police have also detained two Indian nationals — Abhijit Namashudra (22) of Khowai Ramchandra Ghat and Baban Debnath (33) of Khowai Jambura — for allegedly facilitating the illegal movement of Bangladeshi citizens into India for monetary gain. Both were taken into custody on Tuesday.

Residents of border villages such as Asharam Bari and Bachai Bari have voiced growing concern over repeated infiltration incidents, blaming laxity on the part of border security forces for the recurring breaches. Tension continues to prevail in the area following Tuesday’s developments.
