Agartala, 29th March 2026:   Residents of Jagat Das Bairagipara and Bhel Kumar Chowdhuripara in the 22-Kathalia-Mirza-Rajapur constituency have threatened to boycott the upcoming ADC elections if their long-standing demand for safe drinking water is not met.

For years, the villagers have been forced to collect water from local canals and ponds, often consuming contaminated water, which has led to frequent waterborne diseases. Despite repeated assurances during previous elections, the residents say their plight has largely been ignored.

“The election comes and goes, but the fate of the hill villagers never changes. Politicians give promises, but once the polls are over, no one is seen again. This time, we have decided to raise our voices,” said local residents.

The villagers emphasize that basic necessities like roads and safe drinking water remain unmet. They have made it clear that they will only participate in the voting process if a proper supply of drinking water is provided in their area.

This announcement comes just days before the ADC election, putting pressure on authorities to address the water crisis. The situation highlights the persistent struggle of hill communities who, even decades after independence, continue to rely on pond and canal water for their daily needs.

Election officials and local authorities are now under scrutiny to see whether they can resolve the water issues before polling begins.
