Lok Sabha Polls in Tripura on April 19 and 26 next: CEC

Agartala, 16th March 2024:   The Election Commission of India has scheduled the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to commence in a seven-phase process, starting April 19, across 543 constituencies nationwide. Tripura is set to participate in the first two phases of the polling.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar announced that concurrent by-elections are slated for several states including Tripura, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. These by-elections will coincide with the Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, assembly elections will be conducted in Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

In Tripura, voters will cast their ballots in two stages: the initial phase on April 19, followed by a second round on April 26. The same day, the 7 Ramnagar assembly constituencies will also undergo by-elections.

The Chief Election Commissioner further detailed the phased election schedule: the first phase will cover 21 states on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third on May 7, the fourth on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the final phase on June 1. The counting of votes is set for June 4, which will determine the composition of the next Lok Sabha.
