Agartala, 17th November 2026:   A long-pending demand of local residents has finally been met. Starting Saturday, the 15663/15664 Agartala–Silchar Express will officially include a halt at Mungiakami railway station, bringing relief and joy to people in the area and nearby villages.

The move follows a formal request made on November 28 by Bikas Debbarma, Minister for Tribal Welfare and MLA from the 29-Krishnapur assembly constituency, who wrote to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking the stoppage. Acting on the appeal, the Ministry of Railways granted approval earlier this month.

The inaugural ceremony at Mungiakami station was marked by celebrations and attended by Minister Bikas Debbarma, MP Kriti Singh, senior railway officials, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, Debbarma said, “This was a long-standing demand of the people. In the interest of the public, I had approached the Railway Minister, and today that request has borne fruit. The new stoppage will strengthen connectivity between Mungiakami, Agartala, and Silchar.”

Local residents expressed gratitude to the Railways and elected representatives, noting that the new halt will not only ease travel but also open doors for opportunities in education, healthcare, and trade. For many, the decision marks the end of years of waiting and the beginning of improved access to essential services.
