Long wait ends: Two roads of Santirbazar to get new life

Date:

Agartala, 17th June 2026:  Bringing relief to thousands of rural residents, the Santirbazar Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated steps to renovate and carpet two important rural roads that have remained in a poor condition for several years. The move has raised hopes among local people who have long been suffering due to poor road connectivity.

According to reports, the 5-kilometre road stretch from National Highway 8 through Dashami Reang Para to the Gangara road intersection under the Santirbazar Assembly constituency had become almost unusable due to years of neglect. Another important route connecting Salthang Manu Village with Khas Tila has also been facing severe damage, creating difficulties for residents, students, farmers, and patients, especially during the rainy season.

Locals said that demands for repairing these roads had been raised since the previous Left Front government period, but no permanent solution was implemented. The deteriorating road conditions affected daily transportation and caused hardship for the rural population.

To resolve the issue, Santirbazar PWD SDO Prabir Baran Das conducted a detailed inspection of the affected areas on Thursday. He was accompanied by Debasish Bhowmik, Member of the Bokafa Block Development Committee and Santirbazar Mandal President, along with PWD engineers and other officials.

During the inspection, officials interacted with local residents and reviewed the condition of the roads. The PWD team informed that carpeting and renovation work on both roads is expected to begin from next month. Officials also appealed for cooperation from local residents for smooth completion of the project.

Speaking on the initiative, Debasish Bhowmik said that repairing these roads was one of his commitments during the MDC elections. He added that necessary steps have now been taken in coordination with the PWD to fulfil that promise.

Local residents welcomed the development, expressing hope that the completion of the road work will improve connectivity and bring positive changes in education, healthcare, agriculture, and overall economic activities in the region.
