Agartala, 27th September 2026 : Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury on Sunday questioned the role of the administration following allegations of disruption and disorder during former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar’s visit to Kalibazar under Bamutia Assembly constituency to attend a DYFI programme.
Chaudhury questioned how such a situation could arise despite the presence of police and security personnel at the venue. He urged Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and the minister concerned, Ratan Lal Nath, to intervene promptly and take appropriate action.
“If there is even a little sense of shame and respect for the former Chief Minister, action should be taken against those involved immediately so that such an incident does not happen again,” Chaudhury said.
He further warned that the ruling party should remember that if people eventually take to the streets, there may be little opportunity to control the situation.
Questioning the security arrangements, Chaudhury claimed that senior police officials and the officer-in-charge of the local police station were present at the spot. He also referred to photographs circulating on social media, which, according to him, showed the presence of a substantial number of CRPF and police personnel.
“If so many security personnel were present, how did such disorder take place?” he questioned.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Manik Saha’s stated “zero tolerance” policy, Chaudhury said, “It is not zero tolerance; what we are seeing here seems to be zero performance.”
Chaudhury also took a sarcastic swipe at former Chief Minister and incumbent MP Biplab Kumar Deb over one of his recent remarks.
“Our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biggest reform is discovering people like Biplab Kumar Deb. They are not 4G or 5G; they are 10G,” Chaudhury said.
He further remarked that such leaders possessed the “talent” to make claims about events from the past, including the use of the internet in earlier eras, as well as comment on what might happen many years into the future.
“Modi discovering 4G is a very ordinary thing. What is more surprising is how he discovered a genius and talented person like Biplab Kumar Deb,” Chaudhury said.
