Agartala, 17th May 2024: In a grand tribute to the legendary rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his 125th birth anniversary, ‘Maitri Sangsad’ has announced a series of cultural events spanning three days, from May 24 to May 26. A special committee led by Mayor Dipak Majumdar as president and lawyer Sandip Datta Chowdhury as vice president has been established to orchestrate the celebrations.
The committee recently held a press conference at the Agartala Press Club where Chowdhury revealed plans to host international artists, writers, and journalists starting May 24. The inaugural event is set to be a convivial gathering at the Bhagat Singh Youth Home on the evening of the 24th.
The festivities will continue with a ‘Prabhat Feri’ procession on the morning of May 25 in front of Rabindra Bhavan. Later that day, at 3 pm, a statue of Kazi Nazrul Islam will be unveiled at the Renters Society, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Minister Sushant Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, among other dignitaries, confirmed to attend.
The commemoration will culminate on May 26 with an extensive cultural program at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan scheduled from 1 pm to 10 pm, promising a day filled with performances that pay homage to the poet’s enduring legacy.
