Agartala, 31st July 2025:    In a sweeping crackdown on organized crime, North Tripura Police achieved a significant milestone by arresting eight dreaded dacoits following a recent high-profile robbery in Kadamtala’s Ichai Lalchhara village. The operation led to the recovery of homemade firearms, nine live cartridges, sharp weapons, and looted valuables including gold and silver jewelry, seven mobile phones, and various burglary tools.

According to Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai (IPS), a masked gang of four to five armed robbers stormed into the residence of Subrata Kumar Ese in Ward No. 5 on the night of July 26. Threatening the family with guns and blades, the assailants tied up the residents and subjected them to brutal beatings before fleeing with cash, ornaments, and two mobile phones.

A case was registered at Kadamtala Police Station under sections 331(4) and 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Case No. 41/25. Acting swiftly, police formed a special investigative team led by Additional SP Kamal Debbarma. The initial arrests included Kompu Shukla Das (28) and Jamir Ali (47), whose interrogation pointed to Selim Uddin (35) of Khadimpur, East Fulbari.

Selim’s home yielded ₹12,100 in cash, sharp weapons, keypad and Android phones, a music system and astonishingly, a BSF uniform. Investigations revealed that the gang wore such uniforms to deceive villagers during raids.

Based on intelligence from Selim, a potential second heist was foiled with a late-night raid around 1 AM in Ichai Sonapur’s Baruakandi area. The following five were arrested: Panki Mia, Ichai Sonapur; Abdul Qayes (40), North Hurua Kalachhara; Rosan Ali alias Rochai (34), South Kadamtala; Enam Uddin (24), Ichai Sonapur; and Rahim Ali (23), Fulbari under Churaibari PS.

Their arrest yielded five Android phones, two keypads, gold and silver ornaments, one indigenous firearm, nine cartridges, and sharp weapons. All suspects are currently in police custody for further questioning.

SP Rai confirmed that further arrests are likely, and victim Subrata Kumar has already identified portions of the recovered loot. The rapid action by Kadamtala Police and district intelligence teams has sparked widespread public relief and praise across the region.
