Agartala, September 15: A thriving drug trade that has plagued the city has been dealt a significant blow as the West Agartala police station, responding to a complaint from local residents, successfully apprehended six individuals in a recent narcotics raid. The operation, led by Officer-in-Charge Jayant De of West Police Station, took place at Tuton Debbarma’s residence in Badurtali on Thursday night.
During the raid, law enforcement officers apprehended drug dealers operating within the city. Tuton Debbarma’s residence was meticulously searched, resulting in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 350 brown sugar cubes, 140 Yaba tablets, and 500 Spasno Proctivon tablets commonly used for intoxication.
The individuals taken into custody include Tuton Debbarma, Jhaki Debbarma of Behalabari, Sajal Debbarma of Tucker Jalla, Arup Debbarma of Krishnanagar, and Prasenjit Debbarma of Teliamura. These six suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution and sale of drugs and tablets across various areas of the city.
The police have intensified their efforts to apprehend the mastermind behind this drug network through rigorous interrogation of the arrested individuals. In response to this incident, the West Thana police have initiated legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The city is now awaiting the outcome of the ongoing police investigation to determine the extent of this narcotics operation and whether further arrests will be made in connection with the case. This development marks a significant step in combating the illicit drug trade that has been a cause for concern among local residents.
