Agartala, 22nd November 2025:    An incident took place at Melaghar today after police rescued a man and a woman from Baniachhara village following allegations of deception and elopement.

Local reports informed, Jamal Hossain of Rautkhola, Bishalgarh, allegedly concealed his religious identity and married a woman named Suma Debnath several years ago. The couple has two daughters. Later, Hossain reportedly converted to Hinduism after marrying Suma.

Hossain owns a hotel named Kamrup Kamakhya along the Bishalgarh bypass. Among his staff was a woman identified as Bulti Nam, who worked as a cook. Bulti, a married woman with children, allegedly became involved with Hossain. About nine months ago, the two reportedly fled together and began living at the residence of Palash Sarkar in Baniachhara under Melaghar police station.

Recently, Suma Debnath received information about her husband’s whereabouts. With the help of local residents, she confronted the couple at Sarkar’s house on Saturday morning. Both were brought to Baniachhara market, where community leaders and the panchayat chief informed the police.

Melaghar police later took Hossain and Bulti into custody. The incident has triggered tension in the area, though authorities have since intervened to restore calm.
