Agartala, 27th October 2024: IGM Hospital in Agartala has come under scrutiny following a tragic incident where a patient was reportedly denied proper medical attention, resulting in his untimely death.
As per sources, Shanti Saha, 54, a resident of East Pratapgarh, was brought to IGM Hospital on Wednesday due to worsening health conditions, but according to his son, the hospital staff failed to provide him with even the most basic care.
As per the son’s account, after reaching IGM Hospital, he repeatedly asked the attending doctor about his father’s condition but was met with a dismissal. Instead of examining Shanti Saha or providing immediate care, the doctor allegedly transferred him directly to GB Hospital, citing the need for further treatment without attending to the patient’s critical needs.
The situation took a dire turn upon their arrival at GB Hospital, where the attending doctor declared Saha dead. Disturbingly, his son noted that despite feeling unwell, Shanti Saha had been able to walk into the ambulance on his own. However, during the transfer, he vomited once and then lost consciousness.
Saha’s son believes that if the doctors at IGM Hospital had provided even first aid, his father might have survived. The incident has sparked widespread criticism of the state of emergency services at IGM Hospital, with community members and healthcare advocates calling for an investigation into the allegations of negligence and procedural failure.
Health department officials have yet to comment on the matter, but sources within the hospital indicate that a review is underway to determine if protocols were followed.
