Agartala, 10th November 2024:   Tripura Police arrested a man and seized a Russian-made pistol, along with a magazine and 10 live rounds, during a raid in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, on Sunday. The operation took place in Ward No. 10 of the district, which shares borders with Assam and Mizoram.

According to Jeremia Darlong, the Additional Superintendent of Police for North Tripura, the raid was conducted at the residence of 50-year-old Raju Deb. The search yielded a 7.65 mm Russian-made pistol, a magazine, 10 live rounds, and two Android mobile phones. “The seizure of the illegal firearm raises serious concerns about weapon proliferation in the region, and Raju Deb was immediately arrested in connection with the items recovered,” Darlong stated. He emphasized that the raid is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal arms trafficking, which poses a substantial threat to public safety.

Darlong added that a case is being registered against Deb at the Dharmanagar Police Station under applicable legal provisions. Preliminary interrogation has revealed that Deb allegedly acquired the firearm from Dimapur in Nagaland. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities probing possible links to organized crime or illegal arms trade. The seizure represents a significant step in dismantling such unlawful activities in the area.
