Agartala, 11th September 2025:    The fifth subdivision conference of the CITU Dukli Subdivision Committee was held today at the Bhanu Ghosh Smriti Bhavan here. The event was inaugurated by Manik Dey, President of the CITU Tripura State Committee, who addressed the gathering with a sharp critique of current economic policies and international pressures.

In his speech, Dey described India as a developing nation facing undue economic strain from the United States. He alleged that the U.S. is attempting to revive its own economy by weakening India’s, imposing internal burdens through increased tariffs. “America is trying to gain advantage by destabilizing India’s economy,” he said.

Dey expressed concern over the Indian government’s silence on the issue, noting that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor any official statement had been issued in response to the tariff hikes. “The government’s position remains unclear. While today may seem manageable, darker days lie ahead,” he warned, adding that India could be heading toward a severe economic downturn reminiscent of the 2008 global recession.

Emphasizing the need for stronger worker solidarity, Dey urged the organization to deepen its engagement with the labor force. “Only through intense class struggle can communal forces be pushed back,” he asserted.

The conference was also attended by senior CITU leaders Samar Chakraborty, Sadhan Basu, and Jaya Barman, among others.
