Agartala, 4th October 2025 : Following the Durga Puja festivities, the city’s markets are now bustling with preparations for the upcoming Kojoagori Lakshmi Puja. As is the tradition, artisans and potters have set up stalls across the city, displaying a vibrant array of Lakshmi idols in small, medium, and large sizes.
While sellers report that prices have largely remained stable compared to the previous year, many buyers feel otherwise, pointing to a slight increase in cost this season.
An artisan explained, “Although the cost of raw materials has gone up somewhat, we have tried to keep the idol prices the same as last year, considering the buyers.” The Kumortuli (potters’ quarter) area of the city is a hive of activity, with artists deeply engaged in their work—some cutting clay, others busy with paintbrushes, and many putting the final touches on the idols.
Buyers have already started visiting the markets to select their idols. The prices for the idols begin at around ₹300 for a small one, Rs 500 for a medium-sized idol, and Rs 800 for a larger one.
However, customers have a different perspective. Many buyers claim that the prices are slightly higher compared to last year. They attribute this perceived increase to the generally higher cost of all goods in the market.
