Agartala, 7th July 2025: Denied permission to march in support of the nationwide strike on July 9, various mass organizations under a joint platform held a protest meeting on the streets of Belonia on Monday.
According to organizers, a written application seeking police clearance for a rally and meeting in Belonia was submitted in advance. However, citing law and order concerns, authorities informed them at around 9 PM on Sunday that permission could not be granted. This update, they claimed, could not be communicated in time across all participating areas.
As a result, hundreds of working-class individuals from different parts of the subdivision began gathering outside the CPI(M) Belonia Sub-Divisional Office this morning. With no police approval, a brief street meeting was held instead at the party office gate.
Key speakers at the gathering included Sudhan Das, State Secretary of the Tripura Scheduled Caste Coordination Committee, Dipankar Sen, AIAWU central committee member and legislator, and Bijoy Tilak, CITU State Leader.
Addressing the assembly, Das criticized the RSS-backed BJP-led government at the Centre and in Tripura, alleging it had established an “intolerant, communal, and undemocratic” regime. He emphasized that the upcoming July 9 strike was not driven by individual or partisan interests but aimed at addressing the concerns of farmers, workers, the unemployed, youth, teachers, and employees across the country. The protest, he added, also demanded answers for the BJP’s “unfulfilled promises.”
Das further condemned the government’s alleged suppression of promotional efforts for the strike, questioning the conflicting claims made by the Chief Minister, Home Minister, and police over the state’s law and order. “The public must now decide whom to believe,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, another rally and street meeting in support of the strike were organized in the Bhathkhola Market area of Belonia. Among those who addressed the gathering were former MLA Sudhan Das, labor leader Bijoy Tilak, Kisan Morcha leader Nirmal Bhowmik and GMP leader Subir Tripura.
