Agartala, 3rd May 2025: A devastating fire broke out in Hapania Bazar early this morning, completely gutting six shops and causing chaos in the local marketplace. The fire, reportedly triggered by a cylinder explosion at a tiffin shop, quickly spread to five other adjacent establishments.
Eyewitnesses said the flames engulfed the area rapidly, leaving little time for shopkeepers to salvage their goods. Despite immediate efforts by locals to douse the fire, it had already taken a formidable shape by the time the fire brigade arrived. Two fire engines rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.
Among the damaged establishments were four fast food outlets, a sweet shop, and a fruit shop. Affected traders estimate losses running into several lakhs of rupees. The incident sparked considerable excitement and concern in the area.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and local MLA Dipak Majumdar visited the site soon after receiving news of the fire. He interacted with the affected traders and assured them of support from both the state government and the municipal corporation.“The administration stands firmly with the victims,” Majumdar said during the site inspection. He was accompanied by area MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, corporator Bapi Das, southern zone chairperson Abhijit Mallick, and local corporator Sabita Kar.
Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire, though initial reports suggest a gas cylinder explosion as the likely trigger.
