Massive Ganja Plantation Destroyed in Sonamura, Market Value Estimated at Rs 75 Crores

Agartala, 1st February 2026:   Sonamura Police, acting on secret intelligence, carried out a major operation today, February 1, 2026, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, in the Dulunga area of forest land.

During the raid, authorities discovered and destroyed approximately 5 lakh mature ganja plants spread over 170 acres, with an estimated market value of Rs 75 crores.

The operation was conducted jointly by Sonamura Police Station, Sepahijala District Armed Police, multiple battalions of the Border Security Force (81 BN, 49 BN, 69 BN, and 43 BN), and several battalions of the Tripura State Rifles (5th, 9th, 11th, 14th BN, and 14th BN Women TSR). The Sonamura Forest Division and other sister agencies also participated in the large-scale crackdown.

Authorities confirmed that a total of 92 ganja plots were found and destroyed on the spot. The operation is being hailed as a significant blow to illegal drug cultivation in the region, showcasing the coordinated efforts of police, paramilitary forces, and forest officials.
