Agartala, 12th December 2025: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police in North Tripura recovered a large quantity of dry cannabis during the early hours of Friday at the Churaibari police check-post along the Tripura–Assam border. While conducting routine checking on National Highway 8 (Assam–Agartala road), the police intercepted an Alto car bearing registration number TR05B–0314 and discovered a significant amount of contraband.
During the search, police found 24 packets of dry cannabis hidden inside bags carried by four women posing as passengers, as well as in several concealed chambers of the vehicle, including gaps in the dashboard and spaces beneath the seats. The total weight of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around 20 kilograms, with a black-market value of several lakh rupees.
Among the arrested individuals are four women from Bihar—Mongli Devi (28), Kavita Devi (35), Anita Devi (38), and Sutur Kumari (30). The driver, Sandeep Malakar (30), is a resident of the Dharmanagar–Haflong area in North Tripura.
Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debabrata Biswas stated that the contraband was “expertly concealed inside the women’s bags and in various hidden compartments of the Alto car.” He added that although the suspects initially appeared to be regular passengers, certain irregularities in the vehicle’s behavior raised suspicion, prompting a thorough inspection.
According to preliminary investigation, the group had allegedly procured the cannabis from the Ambassa region and planned to transport it to Bihar. Police officials also indicated that this trafficking route has been active for a long time.
Further investigation is underway to uncover the full network behind the operation.
