Agartala, 4th November 2025: The beautification and renovation of the historic Shibbari Pond, one of Agartala city’s most traditional and culturally significant water bodies, is progressing rapidly. On Tuesday, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder personally inspected the ongoing work to review its progress.

He was accompanied by the Ward No. 20 Councillor, AMC Commissioner D.K. Chakma, engineers, and other officials.During the inspection, Mayor Majumder stated that the renovation of Shibbari Pond was initiated under the special guidance and initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The project, estimated at around Rs 2.5 crore, includes the construction of new bathing ghats, installation of a water purification system, boundary walls, decorative lighting, and a walking path around the pond.

Mayor Majumder emphasized that Shibbari Pond is not merely a water body but an integral part of the emotions and heritage of local residents. For years, people of the area have been demanding its renovation, and fulfilling this long-standing public demand has become a top priority for the Municipal Corporation.

He further informed that, if weather conditions remain favorable, the entire project is expected to be completed within the next three to four months. Once completed, the pond will not only enhance the city’s beauty but also emerge as a new attraction for recreation and tourism.

Local residents expressed hope that once the initiative is completed, the Shibbari area will become more scenic, and citizens will once again be able to use the pond for traditional and religious purposes.
