Agartala, 21st September 2025 :  Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar made a surprise visit to the city’s busy Old Motor Stand area on Sunday morning to inspect the ongoing road renovation work. He was accompanied by Smart City Project CEO Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav.

The road, a key artery in the area, had been in a dilapidated condition for years, causing inconvenience to pedestrians, local businessmen, and commuters. Renovation work had started recently, but the closure of one side of the road over the past few weeks had led to public frustration.

During the inspection, Mayor Majumdar stated that the initial phase of renovation had made significant progress and announced that the road would be reopened to traffic from today. “We hope this will ease the movement of the general public. The permanent renovation work will be taken up after Lakshmi Puja to ensure minimal inconvenience,” he said.

In a significant announcement, the Mayor also addressed the livelihood concerns of small traders operating along the sidewalks. He revealed that the Municipal Corporation would arrange rehabilitation for 22 small traders, ensuring that while the city’s roads become wider and smoother, the traders’ livelihoods are protected.

Residents of the Old Motor Stand area have long expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of road repairs. The surprise inspection and announcements by the Mayor and Smart City Project CEO have raised hopes that the renovation will be completed on schedule, with locals looking forward to seeing the busiest road in the area transformed ahead of Durga Puja.
