Agartala, 11th December 2025:  The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a significant step toward improving urban cleanliness through a new waste management initiative.

Today Mayor Dipak Majumder inaugurated seven three-wheeler auto hoppers and three sets of mini super suckers at a brief ceremony attended by several corporators.

According to the Mayor, AMC has been working to keep the city cleaner and healthier under the “Swachh Agartala, Sushtha Agartala” campaign since 2022.

As part of the project, and with support from the state government, new mechanised cleaning equipment has been procured to enhance the quality of services for city residents.

He said that the corporation spent Rs 39.20 lakh to purchase the seven auto hoppers, while Rs 2.88 crore was invested in acquiring three mini super sucker sets.

Mayor Majumder further stated that waste generated from various hotels, restaurants, and fast-food stalls across the city will now be collected separately and transported to the Debendra Chandra Nagar Processing Centre.

“The seven auto hoppers will operate under the supervision of the sanitary inspector of the Central Zone”, he said.

Highlighting infrastructure development since 2018, the Mayor said that the state government’s initiatives have led to significant improvement in urban facilities. Long-standing open drains and flood-control channels are being systematically covered.

The newly introduced mini super suckers are expected to be particularly effective in cleaning drains in narrow lanes, improving water drainage during the monsoon. A dedicated agency has been appointed for this task, which will function under the supervision of AMC’s Mechanical Division.
