Agartala, 4th September 2026 : The foundation stone for the development and beautification of a waterbody located behind New Star Club at Durga Chowmuhani under Ward No. 18 of Agartala Municipal Corporation was laid on Friday at a brief programme.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA of 7-Ramnagar Assembly constituency, Dipak Majumder, attended the programme as the chief guest. Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Corporator and Central Zone Chairperson Ratna Dutta, along with other dignitaries, were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that the restoration and development of the waterbody would not only contribute to environmental conservation but also create opportunities for its future use for various social and public welfare activities.
He said several waterbodies in different parts of the city had remained unused and neglected for a long time. After the BJP government came to power, initiatives were taken to identify such waterbodies and undertake their restoration and development, he added.
According to the Mayor, preserving waterbodies while making them useful for the benefit of citizens is one of the key objectives of the government. He also stressed the importance of protecting such natural resources as part of efforts to improve the urban environment.
The civic body’s initiative has received a positive response from local residents. They expressed hope that the development of the waterbody would enhance the beauty of the locality while also making the site useful for various needs of the community.
