Mayor visits Jaundice patients amid water-borne disease scare

Date:

Agartala, 9th April 2026:   Smart City is witnessing a recurring outbreak of jaundice this year, largely attributed to water contamination. The densely populated Ramnagar 1 area has been particularly affected, with the number of patients increasing day by day.

Residents have raised concerns that untreated drinking water supplied by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is causing the spread of the disease. In response, Mayor Dipak Majumdar visited the homes of jaundice patients on Thursday and distributed fruits to them as a gesture of support.

In an interview, Mayor Majumdar confirmed that some residents of Ward 16 under AMC have been diagnosed with jaundice. He personally visited their homes to speak with the affected families. During his visit, it was revealed that the water being supplied to their homes is not properly purified. As jaundice is a water-borne disease, discussions have been held with the water board to address the issue.

The patients have already sought medical advice, and the mayor expressed his hope for their speedy recovery. However, concerns regarding the quality of drinking water remain significant among the local population.
