MBB University, NSS Unit hold awareness program on HIV AIDS, drug-use

Agartala, December 07, 2022: An awareness program was organized on Wednesday in the context of HIV/AIDS epidemic and injecting drug use, specifically Tripura, jointly organized by Red Ribbon Club of Maharaja Bir Bikram University and NSS Unit. A quiz competition and a rally against HIV AIDS and drug addiction in the university campus and surrounding areas were organized on this grand occasion.

Dr Runu Dhar, Assistant Professor of the University and Associate Professor of IQAC, delivered the welcome address on the occasion. Registrar of the University, Dr Sumanta Chakraborty discussed the prevalence of HIV/AIDS epidemic and the dangers of injecting drug use. Its horror is widely observed among the youth and students. Therefore, he called upon the students and youth to conduct various awareness camps.

MBB University’s VC Prof Satyadeo Poddar presided over this auspicious event. One of the ways to keep students and youth away from this epidemic is to focus on their studies and career building. Therefore, he urged the students to be motivated in education and research and discussed the importance of everyone’s overall cooperation in implementing various social awareness plans of the university.

Dr Debdatta Adak, Assistant Professor and Convener, Red Ribbon Club, delivered the vote of thanks on the occasion. The event concluded with a rally against HIV/AIDS and drug addiction. The rally started from the university building. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Poddar led and University Registrar Dr Chakraborty was in the forefront. Hundreds of students, teachers, officials and employees participated in this rally.

The main objective of this rally was to inform common people and young students about drug addiction and create awareness about HIV/AIDS as one of the consequences of this addiction.

This rally was a strong united and dedicated step towards Maharaja Bir Bikram University’s commitment to free the youth of Tripura from drug addiction and HIV/AIDS and build a healthy Tripura.
