Agartala, 30th January 2024:   South Tripura District Hospital reached a new pinnacle in its medical services by successfully handling a rare case of triplet childbirth. The remarkable event unfolded when a woman named Hiranmala Tripura was urgently transferred to Kalachara Primary Health Center in Sabroom sub-division at approximately 8:57 am on Tuesday.

Notably, the expectant mother had not undergone any prenatal tests despite her pregnancy. The decision to shift her from Kalachara Primary Health Center was prompted by her history of two previous childbirths and her hypertensive condition. In a commendable display of medical expertise, the doctors at South Tripura District Hospital in Santirbazar stepped in to ensure the woman received the necessary care.

Gynecology specialist Kaushik Mahajan, who was on duty at the district hospital during this critical moment, oversaw the natural delivery of the woman’s three children. The birth sequence included a daughter followed by two sons. Fortunately, the mother and all three children are reported to be in stable condition.

However, it was noted that the weight of the newborns is below average, with the first daughter weighing 1.3 kg, the second son 1.5 kg, and the third son 1.4 kg. Upon receiving news of the unusual triple childbirth, child doctor Prasenjit Das swiftly arrived at the district hospital. Through his relentless efforts, Dr. Prasenjit Das ensured the health and well-being of the triplets, who are currently thriving under his careful supervision.

Reflecting on the unprecedented occurrence, Dr. Kaushik Mahajan expressed that such an event had never taken place in Shantir Bazar District Hospital before. The successful provision of medical services in this unique case marks another significant stride forward for the hospital, showcasing its commitment to excellence in healthcare.
