Agartala, 4th September 2025: An important meeting was held on Thursday between West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, other administrative officials, and Puja organizers of the district to ensure peaceful and smooth celebrations of Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Bengalis.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar said that several guidelines have been issued to Puja committees to avoid disruptions during the festivities. As the width of roads in the capital has narrowed due to ongoing drainage work, clubs have been instructed not to extend lighting beyond specified road boundaries. Violation of these instructions will invite administrative action, and if necessary, the Puja arrangements may be halted.
The District Magistrate also directed that the maximum height of pandals be restricted to 40 feet, the idol of Goddess Durga to 20 feet, and lighting gates to 20 feet. However, he noted that a final decision on these restrictions will be taken after further discussions with the organizers.
Additionally, the clubs have been urged to give top priority to the safety of visitors. The District Magistrate emphasized that every precaution must be taken to prevent untoward incidents so that Sharad Utsav is celebrated in a joyful and safe environment.
