Melaghar police seize 26 kg of cannabis during anti-drug operation

Agartala, 17th April 2025:  Melaghar police have successfully carried out a significant anti-cannabis operation on the second day of Bengali New Year. Acting on a tip-off, the police recovered 26 kilograms of dried cannabis from an unregistered vehicle.

According to reports, two individuals in an unregistered eco car were spotted on the road between Melaghar and Udaipur. Upon noticing the police vehicle, they fled the scene abandoning their car. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the cannabis.

Speaking to reporters here, Officer-in-Charge of Melaghar police station Debasish Saha stated that the operation was conducted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Ram Kisan and other staff members. The police had received specific information about suspicious activity near Kalapania. The seized car and cannabis were brought to the Melaghar police station, where authorities are preparing to file a case against the car owner under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
