Agartala, August 13: The CPIM has announced its list of candidates for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for September 5 in the Boxanagar and Dhanpur Assembly Constituencies in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

During a press conference, Narayan Kar, the Tripura Left Front Convener, stated that Mijan Hossain, the son of the late MLA Samsul Haque, will be the candidate from Boxanagar. In the Dhanpur Assembly constituency, Kaushik Chanda will contest; he had previously contested from the same seat in the 2023 Assembly Election against Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik.

Kar also informed that both candidates will submit their nomination papers on August 16.

“In both the seats we have decided to give our candidate.  This comes at a critical juncture when the government is launching attacks on the Indian Constitution, posing a threat to democracy itself. The situation has become perilous, and the citizens are bearing the brunt. The nation seems to be inching towards autocracy, raising serious concerns. In 2023 Assembly election the ruling party has taken all necessary initiatives to gag the voice of the common people and the opposition political parties while the administration playing a role of silent spectators”, said Kar.
