Agartala, 31st July 2025: In a move aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers through modern technology, the Agriculture Department today distributed mini power tillers to twenty-one farmers in Gournagar RD Block. Each machine, valued at approximately Rs 75,000, was handed over free of cost during a formal ceremony at the block premises.
The initiative was jointly undertaken by the state government and the Agriculture Department, seeks to enhance agricultural productivity and reduce cultivation costs by introducing machinery suited for small-scale operations.
Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha graced the occasion alongside Gournagar Panchayat Samiti Vice Chairman Badruzzaman, Block Development Officer Nabarun Chakraborty, Deputy Director (Agriculture) Soumen Nandi, and other elected members of the Panchayat Samiti.
Addressing the gathering, BDO Chakraborty emphasized the importance of technology in strengthening food security. “Modern machinery will help reduce farming costs and boost production. It’s not enough to simply distribute equipment—we’re committed to training farmers to use them effectively,” he said. “Proper utilization will ensure that more farmers benefit from this program in the future.”
The event concluded with the official handover of the mini power tillers to the selected beneficiaries.
