Minister Bikash Debbarma inaugurates ST Girls’ Hostel at Jamthum

Agartala, 8th November 2025: Tripura’s Minister for Tribal Welfare, Bikash Debbarma, formally inaugurated the newly constructed ST Girls’ Hostel near the Jamthum English Medium Higher Secondary School in Kamalpur subdivision this morning.

The two-storey hostel, built at a cost of Rs 32.92 lakh, was developed under the initiative of the Jamthum Bong Colony Rural Development Society. The ground floor houses a dining hall, while the upper floor accommodates residential facilities for 45 female students. The hostel will function in association with the adjacent English medium higher secondary school, aiming to support the education of tribal girls in the region.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, Minister Debbarma and other dignitaries paid floral tribute to a portrait of tribal icon Birsa Munda, underscoring the cultural significance of the event.

Among the notable attendees were MLA Swapna Das Paul, District Council Chairperson Sushmita Das, and District Welfare Officer Prabir Debbarma, along with other local officials and community leaders.

Speaking to the media personnel, Minister Debbarma praised the initiative, stating, “It is truly commendable that a society has taken the lead in establishing such a hostel. The state government will extend all possible support in the future.” Emphasizing the importance of education, he added, “Education is the backbone of society. Without educating our children, the future remains uncertain.”
