Agartala, 4th April 2026: Residents of Santana Chakma’s khas taluk are seething over the deplorable condition of their only village road. The stretch connecting Machmara Main Road to Dewanbari has deteriorated so badly that locals say it is now virtually unusable. Years of neglect and lack of repairs have left the road riddled with large potholes, broken brick layers, and a skeletal surface that frequently causes accidents.
Daily commuters including schoolchildren, patients and villagers are bearing the brunt of the situation. The crisis is particularly alarming in cases of medical emergencies, where delays due to the road’s condition can prove critical. Despite the fact that this area falls under Minister Chakma’s khas taluk, residents allege that no effective measures have been taken to address the problem.
Locals claim they have repeatedly informed the administration, but their appeals have gone unanswered. Frustration is mounting, and with the April 12 election approaching, the road issue has become the central talking point in the constituency. Villagers are making their stance clear: “No road, no vote.”
