Agartala, 15th February 2025: Dr. BR Ambedkar Gold Medal and Mega Award Distribution Ceremony 2025 was held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city with much fanfare. The event was inaugurated by Tripura Scheduled Caste Welfare Department Minister Sudhangshu Das, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar and MLA Mina Rani Sarkar also graced the event, paying tribute to the portrait of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the revered architect of the Indian Constitution.
Minister Sudhangshu Das, in his inaugural speech, highlighted the significance of the awards being distributed. “Today, at the initiative of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department of the Government of Tripura, we are honoring students who have excelled in their academic pursuits. Prizes are being awarded to those who secured first to tenth place in the 2024 Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. Additionally, students who passed from the sixth to ninth class and those in the first division of the Secondary Higher Secondary Examination under West Tripura district are also being recognized,” he stated.
“The main purpose of distributing such awards is to increase the enthusiasm among the students, so that they can study well and establish themselves in the future,” Minister Das emphasized. “The students of the Scheduled Caste section of Tripura are being supported in various ways by the department. We are committed to providing them with diverse facilities in the field of higher education.”
Minister Das elaborated on the financial support available to students aspiring to pursue professional courses. “If a student wants to become a doctor or engineer, the department extends financial assistance. For those admitted to medical colleges, we provide 4 lakh rupees annually, Rs 20 lakh in total, along with a one-time payment of Rs 1 lakh for the duration of the five-year course. Additionally, hostel rent of 13 thousand 500 rupees is given annually,” he explained. “The government is determined to move the people of the Scheduled Caste section forward with such facilities,” Minister Das concluded.
The ceremony reflected the government’s resolve to promote education and self-reliance among the Scheduled Caste community, honoring the legacy of Dr. BR Ambedkar.
