Agartala, 5th August 2025: A new chapter in Tripura’s aquaculture development began today with the inauguration of the Pisciculture Knowledge Center near Vidyanagar High School, Paitur Bazar. Launched by Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, the center aims to enhance technical and scientific support for fish farmers across the region.
At the ceremonial event, Minister Das highlighted the state’s remarkable growth in fish production, noting a ten thousand metric ton increase since 2018. “Despite reaching 86 thousand metric tons in output, Tripura still faces a shortfall of 31 thousand metric tons,” he said. The minister also announced the construction of a ₹100-crore integrated aqua park in the haor region, with ₹43 crore already sanctioned by the central government. The park is expected to combine modern fish farming infrastructure with recreational offerings like boating, fostering tourism alongside fisheries.
“This is the first such knowledge center in Kailashahar,” Das stated, adding that a Superintendent of Fisheries will begin operations at the facility from tomorrow. “Farmers will benefit from hands-on training and access to advanced methodologies that will uplift the local aquaculture landscape.”
The inaugural ceremony drew notable attendees, including Zilla Parishad President Amalendu Das, members Bimal Kar and Shyamal Das, social worker Pritam Ghosh, senior officials from the Fisheries Department, and Kailashahar Pur Parishad Chairperson Chopla Debroy, who presided over the event. Local fish farmers, residents, and government representatives turned out in strong numbers to mark the occasion.
