Agartala, 16th August 2026 : Social Education and Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy on Sunday inspected the Laxmichhara embankment and drinking water problems in the Golodharpur Gram Panchayat area under Gournagar block of Chandipur Assembly constituency.
Unakoti District Magistrate Megha Jain, IAS, Gournagar Block Development Officer Onkar Deb and officials from various departments accompanied the minister during the inspection.
During the visit, Roy reviewed the progress of the embankment construction and the adjoining road work. He said the embankment work is nearing completion and directed the concerned officials to complete the remaining earth-filling work within the next five to six days.
Following the completion of the embankment, brick soling, metalling and carpeting of the road will be taken up. The minister said the entire work has been targeted for completion before Durga Puja.
Roy also inspected the drinking water problem faced by residents of the area. According to local residents, although a deep tube well is operational, people have been unable to regularly access drinking water due to a land-related dispute.
To ensure a permanent solution, the administration has decided to install a new pipeline and restore regular drinking water supply at the earliest. Officials said work on laying the pipeline would be completed within the next few days and the service would subsequently be made operational.
The minister directed officials to take immediate and necessary steps to resolve the area’s key problems relating to the embankment, road connectivity and drinking water.
Local residents expressed hope that the administration’s initiative would bring an end to their long-standing difficulties.
