Minor raped at Khowai, accused arrested

Agartala, 5th November 2024:  A minor girl raped in Tripura’s remote Kachubari area under Khowai district. The rapist’s name is Suren Tanti. After the rape, he threatened the victim’s family not to tell anyone about the incident. The girl’s family alleged that she was threatened with death when she informed the police.

It is noted that the rapist’s family did not report the rape to the police fearing that the rapist had the acquaintance and base of a Sikh leader of a tribal-based political party.

On August 18, a fifteen-year-old girl was raped in Champahaour police station area. It is learned that the girl was allegedly raped by a 36-year-old man from the same area at around two o’clock that day.

A case was registered in Champahaour police station after learning about the whole incident. The case number of the case is 17/2024. The police took up the case under Section 65(1)/351(3) of the Indian Penal Code and the POSCO Act.

The investigating officer in the case is Sushmita Kapali. The accused was caught by the police last night. The girl and the alleged rapist were brought to Khowai District Hospital at around 2 pm on Tuesday for medical treatment. Physical examination of the two was done at the district hospital by the doctor as usual. The investigating officer said that the rapist will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
